EXPERIENCE AWARDS
Your character sheet will have a place for 2 kinds of XP awards: Regular Experience Points and Bonus Experience Points.
Regular Experience points are awarded nightly to the entire group just for playing, and may be a bit higher for good group storytelling, successful mission completion, and so on. They may also be awarded if a long period of in character downtime occurred, to reflect training that went on during that time.
The regular experience total will be the same across all characters. New characters will start out at the same experience total as existing characters, and anyone who misses a game will still earn the same regular experience as the rest of the group while they are away. Only regular experience controls when you move to the next career. (So the entire group will move through careers at the same time.)
Bonus Experience points are awarded individually for game attendance, individual side sessions, good backstory (see details in the backstory section), written stories, in character mission reports, and similar types of extra efforts to enhance the game and your character's depth. Usually you will NOT get to spend your bonus experience yourself. I will directly dictate what the experience was spent on, and direct you to update your bonus experience total accordingly. Occasionally I may allow you to allocate the bonus XP as you would like (particularly in the case of attendance bonus XP). In those cases, you may save it / use it to purchase anything you could normally purchase, but you are expected to spend it all before you advance to your next career. Bonus Experience does not in any way affect which career you are in.
Small repeatable efforts (such as attendance and logs) will probably be awarded small (25- 50) amounts of bonus XP that will be necessary to save up before they can purchase anything. Larger efforts, particularly at character creation time may receive larger awards.
